Hard Drive Probelms??

Hi there,

I brough a WD 1200JB hard drive 10 Months ago, I changed to a new case a Lian Li PC6070, pulgged in the hard drive but nothering happened, the computer started ok, but when it came to searching for the hard drive the computer just hung. I have tryed it in a different computer, but nothing, tryed new cables but nothing. The only thing i can think of the power plug is broken because the hard drive does not even sound as if it even starts.

The specs are:

KT7 RAID
AMD Athlon 1GHz
256 PC133
WD120Gb 7200rpm
GeForce 4 4400 128mb
300W PSU

I assume you mean the power connector on the drive. You did try another available power connector from the supply, didn't you?

If you have a DOS boot disk, you can try booting to it and running FDISK. You don't have to blank the disk or make any changes. Just see if it sees the drive and can tell you the status (Option #4.

Another problem could be if you originally set your disk up with WD's included software. It may have put a "disk manager" on the drive. You can use the same WD floppy disk to check the drive and, if necessary, remove the proprietary crud. Another tool that can tell you a lot about a drive is Partion Magic.

Good luck. 🙂

Hi there, Yes i have tryed a couple of different power cables.

I used FDISK to partition the drive, and formated it in DOS

The problem is the drive does not sound as if it starts up, as if there is no power running though it.

thanks for any help
