hard drive powers up but not recognized

I'm checking out a friend's hard drive and it does what I mentioned in the title. When I have it plugged in as a slave with a master, it disables the primary IDE from not being recognized at all. Its an IBM DJNA 371350. I know its an IBM, its probably toasted but if there's any way I can recover the data it would be really helpful. thanks.

Are you sure you have the jumpers set correctly on the IBM drive? Maybe try putting the IBM drive on the secondary IDE channel by itself and see if it gets recognized.

Yea I've already tried to have it on the channel by itself. Changed the jumpers from master, slave, and cable select all with no results. It won't let the computer get past the bootup saying there's an error and I have to run the bios setup.

The general rule is...
If the cables are okay and the jumpers okay and BIOS does not recognize the drive,
then its dead...
At least that is what I know from experience and research.
Good Luck.......
