hard drive positioning?

i'm slightly curious as to whether placing hard drives a little too close to each other is harmful to data or the hard drives themselves. recently got a compact case and the hard drive compartment is a very tight squeeze for 2 hard drives. since these are magnetic devices, would them being too close to each other be at all bad?

This really isn't all that technical of a question, but no there will be no problems. The only consideration I would have if i were you is adequate cooling.

Yes, they are. I'd be amazed if anything short of sticking a rare earth magnet (like a speaker coil magnet) right onto the case could damage them. And even that might not do much.

nah, you could over your hd with magnets, something about a specific field type/orientation needed to trash data. Not just any mag field will do it.

Correct. I tried and tried to erase my old Maxtor with a magnet, just for sh**ts and giggles. I used a two pound magnet from my car stereo woofer, and it did nothing, even when touched to the HDD and dragged across the surface. I didn't think to try and magnetize the HDD case though. Hmmmmmmmmmmmnnnnn.......

Now if you happen to bump your HD up to close to a disk grinder, then you could have problems...
