For 3.5" and 2.5" drives, what are the highest density platters (both SMR and PMR) HDDs are currently shipping with?

Is it 1.43 TB/3.5" platter for SMR and 1.2TB/3.5" platter for PMR?

Are higher capacity platters planned to be shipped in products anytime soon (within the next year)?

They are all TMR these days.. Now much different than PMR, and SMR is not technology but a software solution like NCQ. Once that spec is finalized we should get much faster and reliable drives. To get 15TB drives the computer needs to control how the data gets written and read as the drive would get slower and slower if it tried to do it all itself. With SSD we got trim to speed things up so SCQ should speed things up so we can still get higher data density without killing the speeds for regular usage. Companies are already doing this with SSD's as the built in software is far too lacking in flexibility and speeds.

We live in a world of unintended consequences.
I wish longitudinal recording were still the standard.
I would gladly trade density for longevity.

1.5 TB per platter (PMR) for WD 12TB 7200 rpm 3.5" Helium drive---> https://www.extremetech.com/computi...-capacity-12tb-14tb-helium-filled-hard-drives

And back in January 2016 Seagate had 1.33TB per platter (PMR) for 8TB 7200 rpm 3.5" (non Helium) drives ---> http://www.anandtech.com/show/9946/seagate-introduces-8-tb-hard-disk-drive-for-nas ( Seagate ST8000DM002 desktop hard drive also has these 1.33TB PMR platters)

I wonder when this tech will filter down to the lower capacity, lower cost hard drives?
