Thats one problem the second problem is how come when I format the drive I only get about 58gig instead of the full 60gig or 61gig that sez on the box. Can anyone help or answer my questions?

Thanks.

I think there is some drive space taken up as overhead for the file system, but that seems like an awful lot.

Did you check the jumper settings on the new drive?

I use the drive as a slave drive and the jumper set to slave. The drive have nothing in it after I format it. I just don't get it.

The size problem is due to the fact that HD manufacturers measure size differently than windows.

I used to know the math on this but can't remember and don't want to go searching. It is something like HD 1000bytes = 1M but windows 1024 = 1M. So Windows is gonna take 60,000 bytes (1000X60gig)/1024 (1 mb to windows) and get 58.5 meg.

You'll lose just a bit more, probably a few tenths of a gig with partition and header information. I can't imagine that it actually uses this much in the format but it definitely is unuseable space.

This is perfectly normal.

Thanks for the heads up. The math seens to me right.

As for as for the blue screen. I figure it out y. After installing the new hardware, u have to boot to safe mode for the damn OS to install the new hardware then reboot and it works. The new problem that I am having is that when I copy from the 20gig harddrive to my 60gig hard drive it freezes my pc everytime. Ctrl+Alt+Delete don't even work. I have to laterally shut the pc off and turn it back on. Here are the configs.

primary ide 0 = 60gig
ide 1 = yamaha burner 16x

secondary ide 0 = 20 gig harddrive
ide 1 = cdrom

both the ide drives is for data only.

The pc boots off the scsi harddrive.

but if I copy the data from teh 20gig to the scsi hardrive and then copy it back to the 60gig then it'll works.

Anyone have any idea?

what motherboard and chipset are you using? This is a longshot but I have a msi k7t pro2a, which has had lots of problems with ata100 drives, and sblive cards. Especially transfering data from one drive to another. This could be such a problem with UltraDMA modes messing up. Hope this heads you in the right direction. PM me if you need some more info on the problem that I had.

Hey turbo this may be a stupid question but can easily be overlooked, did you check the master drive jumpers? I know that western digital has a differnt setup for master with second drive present.

Also I added a 60 gig a couple of weeks ago and recognized it upon boot I even formated it through windows.
