Hello, I have a 60GB hardrive and wanted to know, should I partition it? if so, what benefit does partitioning give the user?
I am running WinMe and the computer is used for games, DVD movies, MP3s, and internet surfing.

Thank you for any and all help.

Well one of the benefits is organization. From that you can gain a performance difference. Why? Cause your drive is not running through a large list of directories in entire drive, but rather only the partition you currently accessing. Personally it is a personal choice, but I find it far better to divide and conquer my system. So for a 60 GB drive I would set up 3 partitions for myself. 20 GB each. One for Games, One for Operating system, One for Downloads/Mp3's etc

alighieri, in addition to the advantages Kinesis mentioned, you'll also speed up defrag times, as you can choose the partitions to defrag. If you set up partitions, you can get your basic install up and running, then Ghost it over to one of the other partitions, then burn an image to a CD-R. The next time you want to do a reformat and clean install you simply restore the image to the partition.
