Hard Drive Partition Problem

Okay, I built a new machine today and installed XP on a 20 gig drive that had a 2.5 gig partition and a 17 gig partition on it. I accidently installed on the 2.5 gig partition...and needless to say, I don't have enough space to do just about anything, including install service packs.

Anyway, so I decide to bust out Partition Magic and merge the partitions. It turns out that I can't, and I'm assuming it's because the larger partition isn't formated. Well, I try to format, and it errors out right at the end. So, I can't format the partition and I need the space. How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Can't you just reformat the whole drive and start again? It sounds like you just started, so start over.

Try deleting the 17-gig altogether, then resize the 2.5 gig to what you want it to be. There are advantages to having the OS on its own partition. Then you can create the second partition out of what is left (12-15 gigs??).

Or do what farmercal said!

The erros are troubling, though.
