I'm currently looking at hard drives for my new gaming rig, and for my budget of around $100 (spent all of my money on other components), I'm looking at two drives:
Hitachi 750g SATA 32mg cache 7200
WD 640g 16mg cache SATA 3.0mg 7200

Looking for reliability mainly. Only seems to be slight benefit to 32mgs cache. Never owned an Hitachi. Both are around the same price.
Can anyone recommend one or the other, or perhaps another brand in the 500-750g range? I'll probably add another drive (Raptor maybe) later when I can afford it.
Thanks very much...

WD it is. I had a Hitachi "IBM Deathstar" ages ago that died on me. I hadn't have a Hitachi until recently. It's the same one you listed in my family pc. It's been a month or so now. The pc is used for a few hours a day. The only thing that I don't like is the low build quality.
