Hard Drive not showing correct size

I installed a Maxtor 40GB hard drive into my computer. It was very easy to do with XP. XP did it all. BUT my hard drive is only being read as 32GB instead of 40GB. Any ideas as to why? Or suggestions?

You are using FAT32. XP can only see FAT32 partitions up to 32GB. You will need to use NTFS. Reference this technet article.

Also, once yo fix whatever the problem is now your HDD will only show up to be 37gigs or so due to formating and the fact that HDD makers "pad" the actual size of the HDD.
