Hard drive not picking up on either channel?

I just sold someone a computer and for some reason the HD won't detect on either IDE channel. This HD came out of a known working computer that was used daily with no issues. The IDE channels detect the CD-Rom just fine.

He said it detected fine first time he turned the PC on but anytime after it wouldn't. Any ideas? He said he tried a different cable and all.
 
Can he put it in another computer and see if it shows in BIOS and/or in Disk Mgmt. Just be sure he sets it as slave.

Dependant on the drive brand/model, he could get the bootable diagnostics from the mfr and use those to test the drive. If the drive isn't seen by the diags, it's probably borked.
