hard drive not being recognized - help!

i just added a hard drive to my system- in doing so i had to switch up some of the cabling. so now my new harddrive is being recognized but one of my old hard drives is no longer getting picked up. it shows up in the disk management utility and is being recognized- but.... its listened as unknown and unallocated.

so i try to initialize it in disk management and it won't initialize- in the system log i get this error:

dmio: Harddisk3 write error at block 6 due to disk removal

i've tried switching cables back- all harddrives are properly jumpered and everything. the harddrive was working an hour ago and isn't making any clicking noises or anything so i don't know what the problem is. it doesn't seem to matter if i connect it to the on board ide or a controller card.

anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

as i said they are all set correctly, they are all on cable select. changing them to slave/master doesn't do anything.

opps sorry about that (thats what happens when I read too fast) What file systems are you use'n? Fat NTFS? How old is the drive that is misbehaving?

NTFS, the hard drive may be two years old- but i've had no problems with it. and it just started to have problems when i put in another harddrive and switched around the cables. if i put the drives back into the original config (before i added the hd) it's still giving me the same error. 🙁
