Hard Drive not accessible.

Howdy,

Some friends were having HDD issues so I brought their drive home to copy their data off and load up their new drive. When I plug the drive into my system it doesn't show up as a normal drive. I can see if in Disk Manager but they have no drive letters. Any idea what I can do? I can't figure out how to do a Chkdsk or anything since they don't have drive letters for me to access. I haven't tried a boot CD yet but that's what I'll try next.

Here's a pic:

Thanks.

When I RIght-CLick the only option I get is to Delete Partition.

I tried booting directly to the drive and it does a chkdsk and then blue screens. Anyone know of a utility that might fix wahtever is wrong with the thing? I can use a recovery program which sees plenty of stuff so I think most of the drive is fine and the Chkdsk doesn't find any bad sectors or anything....

Has this drive ever been formatted? If so, the boot sector is damaged. Try a fixmbr. Well, I just looked at your screenshot. That drive has a damaged boot sector. If fixing the mbr doesn't work, it will require a low-level format.

So should I boot from the XP CD I have with that drive in there and go to recovery console and try that or is there a better way to do that?
