Hard Drive not accessible

A couple of hours ago I was working on my pc when all of a sudden warnings popped up saying that one of my internal hard drives had an error. i went to 'my computer' and checked and now i cannot go into the drive, I keep getting this error:

'E:\ is not accessible

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'

The size of the drive is stillt he same, so it appears the data is still there, I just cant get to it. I removed the drive formt he pc and put it into my external drive enclosure, but it gives me the same error, but the enclosure is running fine and the drivespins up and is running normally as far as i can tell formt he sound of it, so it doesnt seem to be hardware related.

i hope this isnt some virus, of course i scanned my system, but it cant scan the problem drive. this drive is just one of my secondary drives on the system, windows is installed on another drive.

is there any tools i can use to either repair the problem or at least extract the data? thanks.

Does the BIOS see the drive? If so, then you have a good shot at recovering the data. As for specific tools, you can google for data recovery software and see if any fit what you're looking to do. However, be warned that most of them are not free, so you may have to pay to recover it.

I would try testdisk5, it has never failed me when a drive got corrupted and lost it's partition. I recently recovered an entire 60gb of data from my 80gb hard drive in a USB enclosure when the partitons both became corrupted.
