I've got a couple of noisy hard drives, is there some gadget that will silence them or encase them in a sound proof box or something?? Heat is also an issue, I don't want these babies to bake if they're enclosed in something.
I put a thin layer of sound proof foam I get at Ace hardware on either side of my HDs (on the bay side, not directly on the HDs that is). Helps alittle.
I took my drive out of its bay. It's laying on a strip of spongey foam (had some from shipment of OEM parts). The difference in seek noise is night and day!
I concur with Mixxen. I've tried about everything short of submerging the drives underwater 🙂 Laying them on the bottom of my case on some sound absorbing foam is where they'll remain forever, unless I come up with a better idea.
Shouldn't too much, the foam I use has that "egg holder" surface.
Hmmm, just a though, if you don't have that type of foam, you could always cut 4 small squares and let the drive rest on it. Then there will be enough space for air.
