I have heard various people say you can damage a hard drive if you change the way it was mounted(to its side) after you formatted the drive. I've even heard Leo Laporte mention that he has heard the same but wasn't sure if it's true or not. So what do yall think? Reason I ask is because I'm shopping for a new case but the only ones I really like so far that I have found are made by Lian-Li and all of their cases seem to have side mounts for hard drives.

your drive will be just fine as long as you dont mount it in a way that it will be changing orientation while it is powered.. so, as long as its stable and non-moving its alright

I heard as long as it is either parallel or perpendicular to the ground, it is fine, meaning it can't be diagonal.

Makes no sense to me to mount them anyway but flat. Why fight gravity...

yeap. horizontal or vertical is fine. Diagonal is bad.

But please, when your computer is off and you are doing repairs .. please please for the love of GOD, don't turn the case on it's side cause you might ruin the hard drive... hahahhaa

Thanks for all the replies. I know there is a lot of cases out there that have vertical mounted drives but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a problem going from horizontal to vertical after formatting. If I didn't ask with my luck it would set all three of my new HDs on fire and I would come here asking if anyone knew why. I'm sure all the replies would say you went from horizontal to vertical with your drives didn't you??? OMFG YOU NOOB!!! lol :)

I have a Lian-Li PC65 and I've formatted my HD many times in my Antec case, then moved it back to my Lian-Li.......never had a problem.
