Hi!
I have a RAID setup with four 3TB WD Greens running in my file server. I would like to monitor their uptime. Meaning; I would like to know that the disks actually spin down when the content is not being accessed.

I want to do this to prolong the life span of the drives and all.

And I know I should have gone for something else in a file server, but greens is what I chose. :p

Google have shown my that there is some software out there that does the trick, but I wonder if anyone has recommendations?

Btw; I run Windows 7. Have not found my flavour yet, I might move on to Windows server 2012 in not too long.

Thanks!

For RAID you will pretty much be stuck with whatever the RAID controller vendor provides.

Hmmm, ok. I use Intel Rapid Storage Technology ro manage my RAID. So no software that can read SMART info or other details from the disks, then. That's too bad.

I notice that accessing content on the disks takes up to 10 seconds when they have not been in use for a while, so I guess they do spin down.

Thanks anyway! :)
