Hard Drive Mod?

sep

I recently seen a Hard Drive Mod that someone added a window to the top of the hard drive. Anyone know of some articles that could help in this mod? I also seen one with a small (think it was 4inches) CC light inside.

Thanks in Advance,

I saw a hard drive mod with an LED in it. I'll find the link and post it for you. I saved it somewhere

HD window mods are very very ricky imo.
Even a slight amount of dust or dirt on the plates can fcuk it up.

Not to mention you are now changing the designed windspeed and pressure that the drive relies on to lift the head from the platter. I bet we see alot of dead sectors and dead drives out of this. Nothing against modding, just an observation.

I'm not going to use a brand new 200GB drive for this. I've got a 13GB IBM Deskstar that works great. I don't think I'll be to upset if the mod fails on this drive. It's just going to be for looks. If everything goes fine and I don't see any problem with performance/sectors/etc. then I'm going do it on the 160GB!

Thanks for the info! Anyone else try this and got some tips?
