I have two hard drives. one WD 80gb and one WD 160gb. Since today when i go to my Computer , it shows that I have only 9MB free space ( in my 160GB deive) !!. But i have only 37gb on it ( I know it for sure and even when i select all files and folder windows shows 37Gb ). so I know there is some thing wrong. BY the way , when i installed that HD I had to set it with WD software so windows can see it. Please advise me.

Thanks guys

p.s : I have windows xp pro with service pack 1.

ur bios might be to blame if it's an older version version that can't read more than 120gb.

The first thing I would do is boot from a Win98 boot floppy and run FDISK. This will tell you what the computer thinks the drives are and what partitions are present. If you are formatted as NTFS then this will show Unknown under the file system type, but you aren't concerned about that.

If that shows things to be correct, then update your virus check and run a full scan. There are some viruses that play silly games with the boot blocks and partition tables.

If you still haven't found anything, then run CHDSK, or, if you have it, Norton Disk Doctor to verify things there.

ok, I ran CHKDSK and check for virus and there was no problem. i defrag my HD and tested with WD lifeguard and no error there either. so i have no idead what the hell is going on with my HD . please let me know if you can think of any thing else.

Thanks

Checked in Properties under the Quota tab?

Boot to a Rescue Disk and restore the MBR may help if there's nothing else wrong.

A few things to check. Disable hibernation as it reserves a lot of drive space, as well as system restore. Make sure they arent reserving too much space. Also some antivirus programs will cause these errors.

hibernation ans system restore are deisable ( on my boot drive, my other drive i mean). But my HD is 160GB ! I don't understand waht happened to rest of it. This HARD DRIVE is my Storage so there is no OS or Program installed on it. ( Use it only for Storgae). so i have no idea what went wrong.

Ensure you have Show hidden files set or selecting all files and folders will only show you the total size of the files you can see.

To do this if you're not sure open Windows explorer and select Tools --> Folder options

Click on the View tab at the top of the box that appears...

Then click on Show hidden files and folders

This will then show the total of ALL files on the drive in question when you do a select all

Long shot I know but it's a possibility this is the problem, then of course you need to find out what has caused 112GB of hidden files ;)

I tried every thing and i couldn't solve this F***ing problem. I even called WD Sepport but they ain't any help. any how i formated the HD and made to 2 partition and now works fine. I think XP and HD over 120GB has many problem.
