Hard drive light always on...

So I finished my "C2D" system today with a Deleron instead of the impossible-to-get-in-Canada E6600. Motherboard is P5W DH, Antec Solo case, etc.

Two weird problems:
a) The HD light is always on. Never blinks. Just stays on.
b) When I unplugged the block of power/lights to fix my power light, when I turned the rig back on, the CMOS was wiped. Odd, isn't it?

LED's are polarized so if it was illuminated, you have it connected correctly. Try unplugging optical drives from the system to see if the LED goes out.

The floppy cable being reversed could make the HD light stay on? I've had this issue in past builds with the floppy light and reversed floppy cables...

Hi, Sounds more like you have the HD LED plugged to the wrong pins. If not then the MB may have a problem.

Good Luck, Jim

its possible that residual power is still running through the system. try waiting a minute or two. mine does the same, but if you unplug it completely after about 30s it finally goes out.

My power LED is on solid. (I had reversed the wiring before, but that's been fixed)

(So, no, I don't think I've reversed power and HDD)

I think I'm going to be unplugging random storage devices to see what happens...

Do you have the hdd led plugged into the right pins on the boards header? You probably do since on the newer board they've got the pcb color coded so it's pretty hard to mess up. I don't think the floppy cable being reversed will make your hdd led stay lit. That usually only makes the floppy drive light stay lit. Do you have a controller card like a scsi, or firewire card, that you've got your primary boot hard disk plugged into rather than directly into the motherboard? I don't think the hdd led will work correctly in that instance. Not sure what it would do with optical drives connected to the baords ide connections though. Try unplugging the storage devices like you said, one by one, boot and see if unplugging on makes it go out.

I unplugged the storage devices one by one... didn't seem to have any impact.

Oh well, this seems to be entirely cosmetic anyways...

The plot thickens. Somebody else on the NCIX (place where I bought most of these parts) is reporting the same problem with his P5W DH and an Antec P180.

I've had this happened twice before.

Both times it has been the HD LED cable plugged backwards. Reversing it has solved it both times!
