hard drive isn't detected

I have a IBM 75GXP 30 gig. Sometimes it is detected by my bios, sometimes it isn't. When it isn't it usually comes back the next day or in a few hours. But now its been a few days since I couldn't get my hard drive detected. When I go into the bios and try to detect it, the HD light goes on then goes off and it doesn't detect a hard drive. When I boot up and it is looking for a drive, my system hangs for a few seconds then just detects my cd drives.

Probably a bad drive. it's time to RMA it back to IBM. should be under warranty. I had similar problem with my 30G.. except it's a lot worse. sometime during read/write the drive will generate a loud seeking noise and the OS will telling me that the drive isn't there.. but it'll come back normal again.. and the HD tests provide by IBM can't find a clue.. anyway, that drive is packed and ready to be shipped to IBM.

as for your problem, you'll probably need to call IBM's tech support to obtain RMA instructions. the online version won't help you. good thing it's a toll free number....
