Hard drive is copying too slowly AND Winamp is "wigging out" with opening of other programs.

OK, where to start.......... I suppose specs would be fine

1 ghz tbird
2 x 40 GB maxtor hard drives (on the same IDE channel)
512 MB of RAM (PC133 CAS2, 3 months old and never had any problems with it)
WinXP (installed for the 2nd time about 2 months ago (and on the origional install I never had this problem using the same version of WinAMP)

OK... it's preety simple what's happening. When I have WinAMP open playing music and I open another program like an explorer window, FlashFXP, WMP8 (does it very badly then), just ANY PROGRAM WinAMP will get EXTREMELY choppy... The music skips, stutters, and not just like a normal "blip" you would hear, but it does it for about 5 seconds as the program opens. The larger the program the longer and the worse it does it. (photoshop is the worst cause of this problem)

HOWEVER, after the pogram is open (like an IE window) and I open another one, or close the origional and open another one again it DOESN"T creat the problem. I'm guessing this is because the program is still in memory and it's not getting it off the HD.

I have changed no settings since (or before) this started happening, nor have I changed any settings AFTER it's started. I have tried uninstalling winamp version 2.75 and installing 2.78 AND Winamp 3 and the problem happes with all of these versions. The same problem also happens when I play audio with WMP8.

Another problem I've had is when I move files around on my HD (bigger than 100 MB) the copy speed is much lower than it used to be. It took about 3 minutes to copy a 210 meg .avi when it used to take less than a min. Again, I have changed no settings since this started.

I have all the windows updates, no viruses.......... Any clue?
