hard drive io/device error message

maxtor 250g hd, 2 partitions of 116g- partition one , if I do a

chkdsk d: /r, it freezes at 80% at step four, shows about 40 errors in step 1

the second partition is fine, burned all the data off already

R-studio ntfs says most of the data is there, but spends hours grabbing some small 40-50k files and not much else

-running wxp pro, on a ultra tx 100 card in a dell 400sc

Is it truly frozen? Try letting it run overnight. Maxtor also has some diagnostics, run that and see what ity says.

left it overnight, then ran chkdsk again and it froze at 80% on step four again

I already ran the maxtor software, it gave me a code and told me to rma the drive

R-studio ntfs seems to be working now, got it to skip by those files, wheh!
