im leaving my hard drive saran wrapped in the freezer before i head out to work today. Its been making clicking noises and it doesn't even register in BIOS. Does putting it in the freezer work to revive the HDD?

Yes, I've heard numerous stories of it working.

Never tried it myself though.

I've heard that it works too. It freezes the read/write heads in place and does something.

In my experience, the freezer trick has worked maybe 2 out of 20 times.

I had to try it once, and it worked for me, I was able to recover all 60gb of data from my drive. It was giving the clicks of death, and not being recognized by BIOS. Strange thing is that the dry has been working normaly since then.

I always wondered about this. How exactly does it help to get data off a dying drive? And aren't the frozen ice crystals that start forming over it kind of bad for the drive???
