Hard Drive Imaging Utility..True Image or Ghost??

I only read one other thread about this and that was when people perhaps hadn't tried the Ghost 9.0 with DriveImage.

So, for XP, which is better/easier to use/stable/creates bootable CD or floppy?? Ghost 9.0 or True Image 8.0??

I just wanna be able to copy a fresh install's image and just use that everytime I wanna do a re-install.

Thanx for your opinions.

Been using Trueimage and definitely recommend it. Very easy to use, never had a glitch and the features are better than Ghost (not sure about v.9 though).

Have used it many times for HD failures, general XP restores via the bootdisk. Like that it saves backups to compressed files. These can be used to restore a drive that even the backup is stored on (single drive systems). I "think" you need the server version if your running RAID or SCSI, but not sure about that.

I ordered retail Acronis True Image 8, but the sealed package didn't include a serial number for installation, so I'm involved in an RMA hassle. Receiving a sealed boxed retail product without a serial number does little to instill confidence in Acronis.

Check these programs out: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/

For $26, you get both Windows-based and DOS-based imaging programs.

I've purchased and used both the windows-based and DOS-based versions. The Windows-based imager works well for non-OS partitions, but you'll need the DOS-based imager for your OS partition. Both include image verification at the byte-for-byte level.

As a test, I've backed up and restored two non-OS partitions, but have not yet tried a restore on my OS partition.

I've been using Acronis True Image 6 for almost two years. It's been able to do everything I need and makes life much easier. Haven't seen the need to upgrade or change.

bump for the morning users. 🙂

Seems like True Image is winning so far.

Oh, and i do not have SCSI or RAID.

Bump for a freeware version of a disk-duper?

EDIT: Some may not know that many drive MFR's offer disk-dupers of their own. EG: if you have a Western Digital drive, WD has its own disk-dupe software, so long as one disk is WD old or new. Free!

I read in MaximumPC that the Maxtor utility with their new USB drives is very good. For commercial software I would go with Acronis over Norton any day. Way less resource usage and extremely user friendly.

Hey I have one WD HD and the DataLife Guard software. This drives has my C partition and all my windows and settings and programs etc. Could I use the DataLife Guard software to ghost over to a 'seagate HD'? Then I just shut down my machine take the WD HD out and have the seagate HD as C and my pc will boot as normal?

I'm trying to avoid losing all my settings.

OR will another program do this for me? Thanks.

Thanks.
