Ok, i have a 20gb mp3 player and the HD is gone hokey. I have located an image of the drive that might help and i want to apply it to the drive. I have an adapter to be able to hook it into my system, but first i need to know how the F* to use it... its pretty small and extracts quickly. I tried to post a link but it messes up and you need to log in to access it anyway, so i will just describe the file and hopefully someone knows how to use that type. it is named spirit_part_1_2.bin... now i know that is a cd file normally, but someone out there has to know how to use this for a hd image cuz thats what it is. there also seems to be a linux command line or something in a text file that came with it. it goes like this...
Disk /dev/sda: 20.0 GB, 20003880960 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2432 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 2 16033+ 16 Hidden FAT16
/dev/sda2 3 10 63909+ 6 FAT16
/dev/sda3 11 2432 19454715 c W95 FAT32 (LBA)

Thank you ahead of time for any help on this.

ok, let me simplify my question, does anyone know of any backup/restore software that can restore an image from a .bin file? (on a hard drive that is)

.bin is commonly used for a disk (CD) image not a HD image.
the HD on your mp3 player is "hokey"? explain
you want to restore your mp3 player HD? The only thing on there should be data files: mp3s etc. Its nothing but "dumb" storage.

i know that its cd usually, confusing, but its supposed to be a hd image.
the player is an entempo spirit 20gb and im getting the sad face/ hd icon
the file he provided on the yahoo group for the player is supposed to be a hd image that you can use to restore the player with...
this player is rife with problems, but i think its just the software that runs on it, thats why i want to restore the drive, if i only could use the image.

AFAIK I see no reason why a bin couldn't be a hd image

all it has is the data and where to put it

have seen .bin's when replacing xbox drives that tell the drive what partitions and the like

As for reimaging the mp3 player
have you tried burning the .bin?

Its possible that its a bootable cd that you boot the comp with to format the drive

I would unplug other drives before attepting this :)
