I got three hard drives stacked ontop of eachother in my case. There isn't any free drive bays. I've noticed that they tend to get quite warm to the touch.

Anyone have any recommendations on how much heat they can take or a good way to cool them down effectively?

Drives:
IBM 34GXP
Seagate Baracuda ATA IV
Quantum Viking II
(they all have thier uses)

i don't know y case manufactures keep making HD bays so close together. i never stack mine cuz YES the heat can cause lost data and errors. my suggestion wood b 2 get a removeable HD bay that fits in the 5 1/2 bays and put the HD with the OS in that one with 2 bay fans on top and bottom bay of it. u can keep the other 2 HDs in but leave a space between them and attach a HD cooler that screws into the bottom of each HD on them. that way the data HDs will always be there but u can switch out the OS HD and everything will be as cool as ice.

Like I said, all my drive bays are filled (even the 5.25" bays)
I have a total of 7 physical drives.

I have a similar setup with my HDDs. I have 3 in a cage, all stacked.

Maxtor DiamondMax+ 20GB
Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB
Seagate Medalist Pro 6.5 GB

I put an 80mm fan in the fan bracket that is in my HD cage and it works well. None of the drives are more than slightly warm to the touch....just a bit above room temp it seems. Yes, even with only about 2-3mm of space between drives, the air does get through...I can feel it flowing.

Yeah my hard drive cage gets pretty hot too. Here's my config all crammed up in the hard drive cage of my main machine a Lian-Li PC60USB

(1) Maxtor 20gb 740x
(4) IBM gb 60GXP

But the thing is the case comes with two ADDA fans that blow across all of them on the front, so they keep things relatively cool...of course i have an enermax exhaust fan as well....
