hard drive heat

does heat come from the shielded part or the unshielded part of a hard drive?

i know both come out with heat, but which in general has more heat, shield or unshielded?

i would open my case and take a look but unfortunately, its between a bunch of other wires. :-(

Many Thanks.

I had my 250GB Maxtor hanging outside the computer while I copied everything from my old drive to it earlier this week. I found that the unshielded side was warmer to the touch than the shielded side.

Well, if you think about it, the electic drive that spins the spindels is on the unshielded side. Plus the rest of the chips. Since heat flows up the shielded side might also hold some heat though.
