I have a DFI Lanparty UT RDX200 motherboard with a 300 gb Maxtor SATA Hard Drive and a 500 GB Seagate SATA Hard Drive.

When I hook up the 300 gb Maxtor Hard Drive the computer will not POST and I cannot get into BIOS. The only thing that comes on the screen is the DFI logo. When I unplug the 300 GB Maxtor, the computer boots perfectly. This Maxtor used to work on this system until I reformatted the drive.

The 300 gb hard drive works fine when I plug it into my other computer. I am able to format it, copy files, and I've checked the drive for errors and according to Windows, is error free.

I don't understand why a hard drive would prevent my computer booting up. I've already tried swapping cables, changing ports, using the same cables that work for the 500 gb hd. Any ideas?

Check that the boot device is set correctly. Note that, in most BIOSs, you can set the type of device to boot from, and elseware in the BIOS you can set which one (if you have multiple ones installed. ie. multiple HDDs, multiple optical drives, etc) to boot. So there are two settings that must be correct.

Unfortunately with my 300 gb hard drive plugged in, I cannot even ENTER the BIOS. It freezes before I can hit Delete to get in. Basically the only thing that appears is the DFI company's splash screen and it just freezes there. When I swap it out for the 500 gb, everything works fine.

Maybe Power Supply issues? Shouldn't be since a HDD is only what.. 9 Watts, but it couldn't even get to the POST screen.

Or.... have you tried updating your BIOS?
