Hard drive found in bush

I ordered an expensive hard drive last week from a website that will remain nameless. The fedex tracking website said it was delivered on Tuesday (11/28), but my mom said nothing had arrived that day (I'm at college and I use my home address for my online purchases). I called the website that day, and the sales rep said he would contact Fedex and get back to me. I called again on Friday (12/1) and he said they were still waiting on a report from Fedex. Today my mom found the box with the hard drive inside in a bush that is next to the steps that go to my front door. Apparently it rained a ton last night, and the box is soaked, but the hard drive itself is wrapped in plastic.

Do you guys think the website I ordered it from will replace the hard drive if it is broken? Also, what if I don't tell the website that my mom found it, will they replace it anyway?

Don't be a dick and lie about it. Check to see if it works, if it doesnt, then most likely the website has to replace it.

Dont be shady, just be honest. If the hard drive works call up the website and tell them it was in the bushes. If it doesnt work just RMA it.

not the companies fault - don't dick them... not cool, if the drive works keep it, if it doesn't make them replace it. nothing else. do not try to get a free hard drive.

Yeah, no need to be nameless about the website... it's Fedex's issue not their's.

Condensation is the only thing I'd worry about

I don't want to lie, I'm just trying to figure out how to handle the situation so I don't get screwed. What do you guys think the chances of the rain killing my hard drive are?

If it got wet beyond a couple drops of liquid theres a good chance it was damaged.. if not you should be fine.

All the hard drives I have bought have come packaged in a plastic EMI bag, which I'm assuming is essentially waterproof. If that's the case, then your hard drive will probably work. If for some reason it isn't packaged with the EMI bag , shouldn't the seller have a DOA or return policy that will allow you to return the drive and get most, if not all, of your money back?

If the drive was in antistatic bag it shouldn't matter.

Cool, thanks guys. I will make sure it is broken before requesting a replacement. If it is broken, testing it can't damage my computer in any way, right?

Keep the box and take pics b/c if the hard drive does not work FEDEX will need it for the damage claim. The replacement of the product is the responsibility of both FEDEX and the company you ordered from. The company for choosing FEDEX and FEDEX for being lazy SOB's. I would call the company and tell them you found the box in the bushes but it was all wet b/c it was there for a few days and see what they say.

You should call up the website if you can and say that your package got soaking wet and ask them if you should try it to see if it works.
will sound alot more convincing if you call first

I meant if the drive itself got wet & I should have added that most likely it'll be fine.
