Hello,

I have just installed IBM 75GXP 15G into emachine. I have Windows 95 cd which came with my previous computer and Windows 98 upgrade. My problem is I don't have any boot up disk and also what do I install? 95 or 98. If I want to install 98, don't I need 98 full version? along with 98 star-up disk?

Can the start-up disk be made from other computer? Or do I get some kind of DOS boot up disk from other computer?

Also If I try to install 95 it has to be formatted fat-16 right? but then I'll have to format HDD with many partition and I don't want to do that with 15G.

You see where I'm going with this right. Should I try and get Win 98 Full-version and create start-up disk from other computer?

Please help me..

Thanks,

JYP

well with regards to windows 98, if your motherboard will allow it, you can change it so you will boot to your cd rom and the win 98SE cd doubles as a boot disc. For windows 95, you will need to have the cd rom drivers loade in order for you to begin installation from the cd-rom.
Go with windows 98 over 95 so you will have support for larger partions. I am not sure if windows 95 OSR2 has support for larger partions, but to be safe stick to 98.

u can make the startup disk by going to add/remove programs, then startup disk tab....or u can probably find it as bootdisk.com, get the win98 startup disk, once u have that boot up on it and select boot with cdrom support, and then put ur cd in, and goto the cd drive (D:?) and type setup

If you go into your bios and set your boot sequence to CDROM first, then you can actually use the Windows9x cd as a boot disk. I would say install windows 98 but you don't have full version.... 95 it is....

Hope that helped :)

1. Make a Win98 Start Up disk on any computer. You need this to access the CD ROM drive.

2. Then go ahead and run the Win98 Setup, and when it says it can't find a "qualifying" software for the upgrade, insert your Win95 OEM CD and lead it to it.

3. Then let the 98 CD run and install Windows.
