Hard drive failure?????

Yeah I was sitting here at work and there was a power failure. When the power came back on my bosses computer wouldnt boot into windows. I took a look at it and noticed that the hard drive was making a fairly loud screeching noise when it was trying to boot into win 2000. I told her that the hard drive might be dead and she probaly cant get any data from it. So do you guys think the drive is dead? Can we get anything off of it? Do you think we can format it?

Go into bios settings or open the case and see who made the drive (IBM, Maxtor, etc.). You can download diagnostics from their support section of the website for the drive. Copy to a floppy and boot from it (most diags will create this for you). Run them and it should tell you the status of the drive.
