Hard drive failure?

update?: It seems that Maxtor and seagate tools both cannot copy the partition. I almost gave up and went to format when it still recognized the partition. It seems the data is still there but inaccessible. Does anyone know of a way to get into the drive and possible copy it?

Short:
HD rarely used since it was only backup of school stuff etc.
total written to drive ever was prolly around 200gb on the 160gb (counting deleted files)
installed game/uninstall but didnt get all space back.
tried to delete install dir but in use error etc so tried restart and delete.
didnt start up.
drive detected in cmos but stops windows from loading.
Maxtor tools gives an 8 digit error and says its starting to fail.
Accurate?

I installed a game for a short while on one of my non primary HDs and uninstalled it a few minutes after. I noticed i didnt recieve all the space back so i went to the install dir and found nothing cept the folders. I tried to delete them but said random stuff such as permission, not accessable, being used etc depending on what i tried to delete. I decided to restart and then delete, which is when windows wouldnt load up. So i loaded safe mode with cmd and strangely only the cmd loaded. I tried to access the drive and it said an error message but i forgot what it was. Maxtor tools gives an 8 digit error and says its starting to fail.

Any ideas on whats wrong? Anything that could possibly transfer the data if i get a new drive to back it up? must be non windows i guess.

Edit: Maxblast 4 says "The copy feature lets you make an exact duplicate of your existing hard drive." would this work? Anyone tried it before?

seems like im going to buy the 300gb seagate from HD. Anyone know if maxblast will be able to copy the files to a seagate HD? Should i move my files from my other 160gb to the seagate and try to copy maxtor to maxtor?
