Things that may increase failure:
1. Correlated to manufacturer, model, and age (But they do not specify which manufacturer!)
2. Failure rates did not correspond to drive usage except in very young and old drives
3. Drives that are cooled excessively actually fail more often than those running a little hot.

And S.M.A.R.T. is not really all that smart.

Read the comments, one fellow did keep track of his drive failure on around 600 PC's.
