Hard Drive Failure Please help

i have a drive that was my back up drive and now when i double click on it it asks do i want to format i know that is gennerally an error is there anyway to get the data off of the drive then format

I don't understand-give us more info-

Does the PC see the HD in windows explorer or in My Computer? If so, can it access the files on it at all? Once you format it, generally it erases all the data on it, so you don't want to do that.

make sure you have set the master/slave jumpers correctly for this HD also.

If you were using that drive as a backup drive and if your primary drive is still functioning properly then there is not problem. You still have all your data on the primary drive.

RMA the backup drive and when the new one comes just perform a backup to the new drive.

Ain't life grand when you back up regularlyl?

i had a 60 gig and i backed up to a 40gig then i got a new 80 gig and did an OS install on that but now i can access my 40 gig WinXP sees it but when i double click it it asks do i want to format even when i try to explore it

yes i do have everything still on the 60 but i lost all my ISO's and episodes of family guy anyone know how what file in outlook contains the contacts
