I recently had a huge problem with my scsi harddrive, couldn't reinstall xp, tried everything, finally just formatted the drive-nightmare-and now can't load xp again. I think the drive is dead but someone else suggested it may be the power supply. I don't have another harddrive to try to load xp on, but I just wanted to know if that was possible. The monitor starts up, cd works, I can stick the disk in and it tries to load. I can't remember the error, it's been about a month since I have looked at it. Anyway I just wanted to know if it is worth it to try another power supply before tossing my harddrive.

scsi 160 18gb
ecs k7a motherboard
300watt ps-I think, may be higher
athlon xp 1800

Try downloading the drive testing software from whoever made the drive. It would at least tell you if there is something physically wrong with it. Scsi drives generally have a 5 year warranty, unless it's oem. So if the testing came back with an error code you could see if possible to send it in for repair.

are a using an additional SCSI controller card, or does the controller is an on-board controller on your mobo.... if it is an additional card you might want to check the status of your controller card... usually an additional SCSI controller had it's own self test utility...
