Hard Drive Exchange

I'm going to attempt to build my first computer and I need a little help doing so. I've got an emachines that I'm going to swipe the cpu, ram and hard drive from to place in the new pc. Question: I have winxp on my current rig, what steps do I need to take before I can exchange the hard drive? Do I need to merely reformat the drive and then shutdown and place it in the new machine, then load up winxp on the new rig? Any help is appreciatted.

Assuming that copy on XP from the eMachines PC will load on a non-eMachines PC, yep, you can format it in the old rig or in the new rig and reinstall.

Yea, I've got a separate copy of xp that has never been used yet.
