hard drive errors

trying to install from a cd sierra game after finding a folder to install into a error pops up and says a certain file my be write protected or it says illegal operation on a different cd i was able to download on the drive and acsess it just cannot install these games also upgraded to win 98 1st for a pci\usb expantion slot now this help
ok let me explain again i tried to install casino game on this machine it goes so far and says the drive my be write protected tried a different cd program constant illegal operations but i can use the hdd and download to it how can it be write protected
 
First suggestion; Try using some punctuation in your post. It is very hard to figure out what you are saying without any commas, periods and so on.

Secondly, as far as your HD is concerned, the first thing to do is to run a program like SCANDISK on it and see if there are any bad sectors on the HD. You should do the THOROUGH check to ensure a surface scan is done. This might lead to some bad parts which the game might be getting onto and resulting in a read of a WRITE PROTECTED HD. Once that is done, run DEFRAG on the HD and then attempt to install the game again. If it fails again, you might want to ensure that it's a good CD by installing the game onto a seperate computer/HD and if that works. Then you can start looking at other possibilities for your machine. Regards
