hard drive dies from power??

I have a really old computer (P-133) that I was going to use as a simple home use server, but the hard drive keeps dying. I'm not sure what the problem is. During normal use I can hear the hard drive spinning, but at random times I think I hear the power fail, then the hard drive stop spinning and everything is frozen. Then I hear what sounds like the computer trying to start up or something, failing, and trying to power up again, and failing, and son on. I've tried different hard drives with the same results.

Is this a power source problem? Mine is 250 watts, and it's over 5 years old.

The only real way to find out is to switch out the power supply and put in another one. It looks like a dying power supply.

I guess this is kind of a lame question, but will I have to reinstall the OS, make BIOS changes, or anything else if I replace the power supply? Or will it simply be replace and power up?
