Hard drive diagnostic tool?

Does anyone know of a diagnostic program/tool that could tell me if my harddrive is malfunctioning?

Just go to the maufactorers web site and look for it.

Yup, if you really have some problem and need to get access SpinRite is a great tool but it is relatively expensive. You can use Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test on most mfr's drives and/or use the one from your mfr's web site. The results will often be a code that you'd have to call your mfr's TSR to interpret for you whereas SR tells you in plain english what it found. The DOS version of the Ultimate Boot CD has most of them already on it, if you have high speed internet, you can DL the ISO and burn yourself a copy.
