As far as processors go there seems to be industry announcements when they are taped out, when production starts, future release estimates, etc. I don't recall ever seeing anything about hard drives even though they are always increasing and changing.
Seagate releases 500GB/platter drives and by the time the public hears of it they are already at Newegg. Are the manufacturers holding their cards that close or is there just too little interest in them to marrit a wee bit of marketing?
Anyone know, and can share, what kind of R&D time goes into hard drives?
