Hard drive defrag keeps hanging???

Anyone had this problem & know what causes it? It seems to get kicking pretty good but hangs half way through during the Compacting Files segment.

defrag in safe mode

Try defragging in safe mode instead.

I have a Raptor that's still 80% empty. I think the XP background apps & UT2k4 was just making it restart over & over or something. Thanks guys.

lol ut2k4 would definately cause it...if the system is reading and writing to the disk...how can it defrag it at the same time lol.....

Hi, That's usually a sign of a drive that is too full. You should maintain about 20-25% of headroom on any drive. Defrag may not have any work space. Safe Mode works because a lot of Windows junk is not loaded giving Defrag the space it needs. If true then think about dumping some of the junk off the drive. Luck, Jim
