I got a 80gb Western Digital Hard drive that I bought in January and just opened it up yesterday to put it in to back some data up. I partition and format as usual (no problems) but when i go to install an OS (XP) it will start to copy and then clank, clank, freeze forcing me to restart. MS scandisk and software from WD says its healthy and no problems but it freezes everytime data is copied. Im about to send it back to WD but thought maybe I might as well post it here and maybe someone has some advice. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

You will need a RMA number from WD, without it they may refuse delivery. Give them a call and have the customer service tech give you a RMA number.

Yeah, i understand that part. I was just wondering if anyone knew of good software to attempt to fix it (if its not a major problem) before resorting to that.
