Hard drive crash...what to do

40gb storage drive. Lots of work, lots of random stuff I can't even think of. The drive won't stop making clicking noises, sounds kind of like a head crash. The BIOS doesn't recognize the drive. It's still under warranty, so I can get it replaced, but Hitachi doesn't do data recovery, and I'm not ready to drop 400 on that.

Are there any options I'm missing?

Put it in the freezer... 😀 then get ready to back everything you need... worked for some people here.

Don't forget to put it in a freezer bag before freezing.. moisture can kill the drive.. again...

No luck. Also tried the "face slap". Sigh....

Something that has worked for me is to use it as a Slave drive.

Find another hd that already has an OS installed. Hook it up as a slave drive & try to boot your computer up. If it comes up, then start copying files like mad into the other HD.
