Hard drive corrupt?

Windows is reading an external hard drive that I was using to transfer files as not formatted. But yesterday it was working fine. The file system is/was FAT32. Is there any way to get Windows to read the hard drive or have I lost the files on it? The files weren't critical, by any means, but I would like them back.
