Hard Drive cooling idea...

I have a high volume fan, and my HDD seems to get toasty. Would this be a good idea? Or would I fry my HDD?

What exactly are you trying to do?

Just place the HS on top of the HDD to help cool it off.

I haven't tried it myself, but I've read reports that the hottest parts of a hard drive are the sides. You'd probably be better off attaching aluminum/copper U-channel pieces to the sides and suspending it with rubber cords or what not. That way, you kill two birds with one stone (heat and noise).

No noise with my drive, just that little heat problem. O well.. too tired to try and test now...

nice suspension, the vibration resonate through the metal piece of the case...sometimes the seeks from my Raptor can be annoying

Or you could get a real HD cooler, like Antec's, for around $30.

It works well, and is very quiet.

If you have 3 external full-sized slots available, or if you need to cool several drives, you could use something like a Thermaltake iCage instead:

That's also priced somewhere around $30.

I'm not saying you have to; just that they're available options that work well. As to what you achieve by your own efforts -- more power to you, and those results are your own.
