What hard drive do you have?

You shouldn't need a hard drive cooler for the rig in your signature, unless you're gonna be using a SCSI HD or more than one Raptor or somethin'.

I have that exact cooler, it is very quiet and blows quite a bit of air. I got it with my Seagate drive last week actually. THe reviews on newegg said the drive got hot, so I bought this inexpensive cooler, I reconmend it!

Depends on the drive. Again, what drive do you have? There's no mention of a hard drive in your sig.

No offense, really, but it seems like you're looking for a solution to a non-existent problem. The only need for a HD cooler is if your case is like an oven, which it shouldn't be with your components, or if you're using SCSI drives (like Ribbon said) or multiple Raptors or somethin'. Now, if you're in a really hot climate or somethin', maybe something like that might be a good idea, but a couple of fans just blowing your HD heat around your case would be down on the list of pressing needs in that sitch anyway.

Save your $3.99, plus shipping, and spend it on something useful. In normal usage, a regular ATA HD will not get anywhere near its maximum operating temperature. If coolers were necessary with regular ATA drives, the manufacturers would be bundling them in. Good case cooling will do a lot more to prolong your HD's life (and all your components' lives) than a HD cooler will in your case. :)

It depends on how they're put in the system. I had a case where the 3.5" bays were right on top of each other. Three 7200rpm drives all sandwiched together made for some high temps - too hot to touch, around 65C according to the SMART data. And when I say they were together, I mean in physical contact with one another.

With air space around a drive though, it should be fine. If you find a cooler somewhere really cheap, and feel like cooling a hard drive a bit, go for it. I used the Ultimate Hard Drive cooler, without the fans - it's just a big heatsink that clamps onto the hard drive, and fits in a 5.25" bay. I've got Antec SLK3700 cases now though, which sets the hard drives in the front, right in the path of a 120mm intake.

As long as you do not char your skin when you tough a HDD(like a cpu will) , then you won't have to worry about it's temperature. Since HDD's run only a few degrees above ambient.
