My old Maxtor 60GB has just died....It's not spinning properly....I have heard that you can still recover the data by swappng out the controller board????

Anyone know any links or useful information as to how I can perform this???

I understand that I need the exact model...

Thanks

I presume its spinning as its making clicking noises....is this freezing trick for real?

Sometimes the freezer trick does work. switching out the controller board for clicking noises wont help you much though.

If the drive is identified by the bios, you can try putting it into another machine and trying to pull off the data with some data recovery software. If not, just use your latest backup. You have a recent backup, right? If not, get out your checkbook for some data recovery!!!!
