Hello I have received most of the parts for my new build. I am waiting for the P.S. & tuner card. here are the components i selected.

I want to set up the two 500gig drives in a raid 0 this build is a P.C. for my son age 13. I want it to be a learning experience for him and me. So more for the use of the technology than for performance i want to use the raid. This is how I plan on hooking up the drives The two 500gig drives in raid0 on the Intel sata ports. & the 74gig raptor & the dvd drive on the gigabyte ports. I will be using the raptor as a system drive. Will this configuration work? Any tips for a dad who is beginning to feel like he bit off more than he can chew? Thank guys for any advice or tips you can offer me. I really want this to work. By the way like i said all the parts are either on there way or already received so thats what i will be using.

No, the DS3 doesn't have Intel RAID.
You could run RAID on the Gigabyte (JMicron) controller though.

 
Personally I would advise you NOT to set those two 500 gig drives in RAID 0.
You're just asking for more trouble than what it's worth.
The performance gain of RAID 0 is totally exaggerated compared to the risk of having drive failure on one of those drives.

As for configuration, put all drives on the intel SATA ports, and as you planned put the OS and programs on the Raptor.
Use 1 of the 500 gig drive as data storage, and the other as backup (if possible).
 
Thanks for the info. I still think its kind of cool to click on your hard drive property's & see a terabyte of available space
