Hard Drive Compatability

Hi um, question... I want to get *** Refurbished *** MAXTOR 5T060H DIAMONDMAXTOR PLUS 60GB 7200RPM ULTRA DMA 100 EIDE HDD - OEM Drive Only. Free Fedex Saver Shipping
hard drive but I'm not sure if it's compatible with my motherboard... this one...

so please help

I take it you don't know if the motherboard supports Ultra DMA 100?
Do you have a model number of the Gateway computer?

I would recommend picking up a cheap (they're all cheap) ATA100 card to avoid problems. A system that old may not be able to detect the whole capacity of the drive.

Went to Intel's website and looked up the pdf file for the 440zx chipset and supports only DMA 33, if you hooked up the DMA 100 it could mess up the computer if you tried it.

Like Pariah said, get the PCI card (if you have the space in the computer) and hook up the HDD that away.

It's backward compatible, there should be no reason to fear installing an ATA-100 HD on an ATA-33 controller.. In fact, I'm doing it right now..

I don't think it will mess up your computer, it's OK to use it, no compatability issue at all. But you just won't be able to take full advantage for the new harddisk, it will perform at a much slower rate than it could. An ATA100 card is strongly recommended.
