hard drive clicking

I got a maxtor 7200 rpm 133 ata 80gb hard drive set up as slave that made some clicking the other day. I turned the pc off and then on again and the noise was gone. Today the hard drive is still silent after leaving the pc on the entire day. Any comments? These drives are come with a 10 yr warranty right?

Backup whatever's on that HD 'cause it's about to die. You can look up the warranty on your HD on maxtor's site. Doubt it has more than 3 years of warranty on it when you bought it though.

Before you go anywhere, back up your data because that 'clickity-click' sound usually means that your HD is about to have an aneurysm 😉

Sounds bad. Back up data and then use those utilities.

BTW I don't think any drive has ever come with a 10 year warranty. I believe the standard is 2 or 3, while WD raptors and seagate drives have 5.
